 - Venetian style regatta in long boats resembling gondolas whose crew row standing up.

February: Carnevale
Major events of the year when Venetian don spectacular mask and costumes for a week long party in the run-up to Ash Wednesday

April: Festa di San Marco
The feast day of the city's patron saint.

May:
Vogalonga - The"long-row" regatta inspired by veneice's glorious maritime history.
Festa della Sensa - Feast of the Ascension with special regattas held off the isle of Lido.
Regatta of the Four Ancient Maritime Republics - historical regatta
in which four galleons ( each rapresenting either Amalfi, Genoa,
Pisa or Venice) complete for line honours.

June:
Marciliana - medieval pageant held in Chioggia to commemorate
siege of the city by Genoa in 1380.
Sagra di san Pietro in castello - a busy local festival with music, food and drinks at the steps of the church that was once the city's cathedral.

July: Festa del Redenrore
The feast of the "Redeemer" is  marked by  yet another regatta on
the  Grand Canal. The night before, people eat a traditional meal
of roast duck and sit back to enjoy some spectacular fireworks.

September: Regatta Storica
Historic gondola race along the Grand Canal. This is preceded
by a parade of boats decoraded 15 century style.
Annual event since 1274.

November: Festa della Madonna della Salute
Special processin over bridge of boats across Grand Canal gives thanks for the city's deliverance from the plague in 1630

Biennale Internazionale d'Arte
Now held on every odd-numbered year between June and November in permanent pavillons in the Giardini Pubblici.

Mostra del Cinema di Venezia
Italy's version of Cannes, is held annually at the Palazzo del Cinema on Lido
